DFI Session 4 - Collaborate Sites

Google Hangout with Dorothy

Some really good points about sharing today.  It is not a new concept, but since 2005 its expanded to a worldwide audience.  Certainly not discounting a range of ways to share, not just on technology.  I am appreciative of the reason for using blogs as that is a question that comes up regularly with new staff to Manaiakalani this year.  I have some good reasons to discuss:
- its legal to under age users
- BOT has full control of this via the settings
- it can be monitored and regulated.

Multi-modal
I love this!
Multiple ways of "hooking" our learner in - engaging in their learning style
books, art, movies, links, google maps, text, accessing multiple text, multi levels, multi modes to build on a rich understanding of your learning.
All about engaging students.

Learn Create Share - enables leverage up or down for your students

SITES

Lots of learning here for me.  I have created a site which is terrible and not very engaging, so great to have a tutu!

This is useful for the colours
colour picker

Think about small or large buttons depending on the audience

I had a go at my own site!  It's very basic, but it worked!!
Gardening Site

My next job is to create a school site that is exciting to view!

COLLABORATION

Another really great session.  As time goes on you can see our group working together in a streamlined way.  People are confident to seek help from each other.  Lots of sharing and giggles in between!  I am absolutely loving the new learning that I am getting each week.  The learning will help stream line my workflow.

Google Keep has been very good to delve into.  I already use it, but have enhanced my use this week.

My next steps will be important to practice my new learning and tutu so I continue to embed in my head!!!

Poster on google draw

Put my new learning in to practice  this week creating a poster and embedding it into my blog.  Great to create with the learning and help our PTFA out too!
Another example of using the learning - and I actually enjoyed it too!

The learning in this task
- explore tool to find a png picture that was approved to publish
- send the picture to the back
- insert text
- change font and colour and add in texture
- manipulate text boxes
- embed
- publish!

This will help my work flow by being creative!

DFI Session 3 - Media

Guest Kent Somerville from Point England
Kent Somerville presentation
Thinking
You can not be creative without "learning" that has happened first.  Think about how we can be creative.  The key is that the learning is effective.

Lots to think about - the key point is that creativity promotes learning, so lots of great things to ensure we are focusing on at school.

Next steps.
Go and check out principal blog from slide (must do this and have a really good look).  The honesty of the journey is quite empowering in my own journey.  I am loving the learning - it is exhausting which is brilliant!!

"Creators of content, not merely consumers" - the kids are doing the work, not just copy and paste

Sisomo (Sight sound and motion)

I need to use Hapara a lot better in the school for our safety and the safety of the students.

Think about using "bulk buy" option through Point England for camera's etc.  A wonderful opportunity as part of the Manaiakalani partnership.

"How to"
You tube.com

Check your username when you are on Youtube.

Google Draw
It is set up to fit online images automatically or custom size (google A4 or A3 size)

Google Slides
Use Toby to save all the slides ready to pull up
Create a animation with google slides
Can upload so they play automatically
Can hyperlink with each slide as each slide has its own URL (slide deck)
Create animations, make sure it is PNG.  Use explore tool
Publish to the web - go to embed - choose small as medium is too large.  Choose speed of slides (ever 3 seconds is ideal)  Grab the code
Go to HTML (not compose) and animation is there.

Media Slide
Remember to come down here type in "zzz"....control F to find that, then double click and paste the URL

Pepeha
This is the start of my digital pepeha.  I will keep working on making it interactive.  I am thrilled to be able to embed my slides into my blog.   The fact that it updates automatically makes the workstream flow!!

Must go and look at the resources for the exam

DFI Session 2 Wednesday 13th March 2019 - BOI College

Understanding

Really useful to have the Learn, Create, Share flowing throughout the day. Live examples working through the day. Lots of opportunity to connect with colleagues to check, clarify and share how this can be linked back to school. I love how Manaiakalani kaupapa first and foremost is based on student learning and achievement and the devices are the tool.

We had some technical issues, although it must have been frustrating for Kerry and Venessa, it is a "real" model of what happens. Some great learning around "incognito" that came from this. I love to see the problem solving and sharing of knowledge between the cohort to try to rectify challenges.

Improvement

The main learning for me was tidying up my emails - they are not all there with 21,000 of them, but I will work my way through. Although the google hangout was not successful due to the wifi, I feel much more confident to give this a go. I have been part of a google hangout, but am yet to set one up.

What could I use?

Certainly a great opportunity to keep my emails more efficiently and effectively. I get so many coming in every day.
Next steps for the staff:
- unpack the words "learn, create share" to check in a shared understanding
- refer to the SAMR model (slide 19/20)
- make time to look at google class on air to see "best practice"

Improve confidence and capability.

I think it is important to make time to practice the new learning. If I don't do this weekly, I risk that I will forget too many things.
Another thing I am thinking about is keeping notes on the blog to be able to refer to notes easily.
Recording the hangout via Microsoft Powerpoint was a new concept - I didn't think about linking powerpoint within a hangout.

Homework is to visit these summer learning journey and record our screen and conversation through google hangout.
Link this to the calendar too as a handy resource.

- Summer Learning Journey (SLJ)

Questions and thoughts to drive your conversation for the Google Hangout Session:

    • What was the teaching design behind this post? ie what learning outcome was the teacher hoping for?  How was the lesson/activity designed to promote literacy goals? Key Competency goals? ‘Soft Skill’ goals eg collaboration? Manaiakalani pedagogy and Kaupapa (learn create share I Connected, Empowered, Visible, Ubiquitous)
    • This task was about to "learn" about NZ, with a focus on who we are, culture - reading was required to research and check her facts. She is Tongan so there would have been some learning around Maori culture for her to build up her knowledge. I really like that she could adapt the task to suit herself and she provided links to more information. I think the teacher was aiming for literacy with reading mileage and applying new learning to create and share for an audience.
    • What was the learner’s response in the post content ie What did they do? What did they learn? What did they create? What did they share about?
    • She could add further information (which she did). This was a combination of appropriate use of text and images. She went on to do the extra option which impressed we, as she was highly engaged in this task.
    • Who responded to the post and how did this support the learning experience or contribute more to the learning of the child? ie look at the comments beneath the post. Does this reflect a learning conversation? Who was involved in the conversation. How does this contribution to learning stack up against the original task design and/or the child’s post?
    • Really good discussion with the comments on her post. The comments were positive, followed by a thoughtful comment and a question to promote more discussion.

DFI - Session One Wednesday 6th March 2019

Time to reflect and share with colleagues

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
Great reminder of the background of Manaiakalani and the kaupapa and pedagogy. Really enjoyed the learn, create share - we actually did that today.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
The tips to speed up my use of the drive, using documents with confidence and clarity will help me immensely. The little short cuts and efficiencies to streamline my workflow will be key. It is amazing how many things you learn and then stop using (ie. Google keep). I am going to work on actually using my new learning so I retain it.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
The collaborative sharing for writing will be very useful and the reminder to use the voice typing option. I will also use the contents and footnotes in my documents to help finding information quickly. I think the other very useful option will be the group mail. This will ensure all members are getting messages without overlap, which again will decrease my workload double-handling things.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
Speed using the tips and tricks! Getting some order in my document storage and making me use my blog for reflection will be vital. I have started with limited consistency, so this will make me more accountable.
