Simon Scott's blog - professional reading
After reading Simon's Blog Post reflect about what strategy or new approach you could take in your classroom/hub/studio.

The most important part of this process has been teaching the children how to comment on other children posts. They follow the 3 steps of write something positive, thoughtful and helpful.
Completely agree with this statement. Moving past the "shallow" comments to promote indepth thinking and learning has been key.
By following this template it has stopped children from giving shallow feedback like 'Good work', 'Awesome, well done!'. Their comments now are full of advice or questions that promote further learning or initiate a learning conversation. But the biggest impact to the students learning has been the improvement of punctuation in their writing. This has been transformational! Through the combination of the 3 steps to writing a comment and having an authentic audience the children's punctuation has improved out of sight.
What is the new strategy?
The goal here is to "cause" learning. The next step will be to encourage whanau/school/families/peers to regularly get on and blog.
What are you thinking about trialing in your learning space?
The expectation of regular blogging. Reflect on them and allow for time to blog. The aim is 8 posts per week. 3 of your own and 5 on other's learning.
What new learning, resources or support could your Manaiakalani Outreach Facilitator provide?
Evidence and professional readings around this would be helpful when encouraging whanau to comment. It is easy to focus on surface features rather than really promoting the deeper level features of what the learning is actually showing.
Sizing google docs to embed on a blog
- This very cool link will help me to fit boxes into my blog. The challenge will be to
- make it work for me!
- Another way around this tricky little concept is to use the snipping tool
- 1. Search "snipping tool" down the bottom in search function
- 2. Select the area
- 3. Save the clip as a png
- 4. Upload via a picture
- 5. Resize to fit!!
- 6. Yehaa!!!
OR.
Use the above link and pop in the magic number of 700

Hapara
Really enjoying my role working alongside the team from Manaiakalani who have provided wonderful models and examples to set up our school wide Hapara system. I have the pleasure of being the "techno" girl in the school as we are small and everyone is sharing the load. I quietly really enjoy it, but do need to keep on top of the work load.
PTC1 - Commitment to the teaching profession
I will maintain public trust and confidence in the teaching profession by:
I believe that Hapara will help keep our students and teachers safe with best practice around their digital footprint. The contracts will be seamless within this system and I appreciate the focus around learning.

Creativity Empowers Learning
Staff meeting with Donna Yates our facilitator with Manaiakalani based around Creativity.
- Sharing of our digital technology learning based on creativity
- Lots of great creativity happening within PCS in the classrooms.
- Favourite for me tends to be iMovie as the students can use this to share our school values with ease.
- Next steps will be to try some animation using lego men or puppets to add to the range of digital platforms I am trialing with the students.
This is a real passion of mine. Always allowing for creativity to expand thinking based around some good knowledge. Students need to be empowered to take risks to be creative. Creativity is fun for the students and the teachers and empowers LEARNING!!!

Digital Toolbox
Had our first cluster Digital Toolbox session around Blogs/Sites last night. Great to be in a group of supportive learners who are focused on pedagogy through the use of digital platforms. We had the option of blogs or google sites. My focus was Google Sites. I am working on developing a digital curriculum for our teachers, students, whanau and community to be able to see what we are teaching in the NZ Curriculum and at Pompallier Catholic School. The use of Google Sites is enabling transparency. We have a commitment to providing authentic learning opportunities within the rich NZ Curriculum and this is a way forward. This platform enables us to update the changes in the curriculum without double handling across multiple documents. It is very much in a draft form at this stage, but the plan is to have each curriculum leader feed into this document. I have much to learn about Google sites!!!!!

Manaiakalani Outreach for PCS
http://www.educationalleaders.govt.nz/Leadership-development/Professional-information/Professional-standards-primary-school-principals
Lots to consider with our new journey alongside the Manaiakalani Outreach Programme. We have 2x staff members that have intensive weekly professional development working with Donna Yates in their classrooms. Another staff member is getting a digital intensive fluency. This links with culture and pedagogy. We are working on lifting our own capabilities to enhance learning and achievement. I am really enjoying the small amount of professional development that I am getting through these other staff members, and any interactions I have with the Manaiakalani support network.
